GreenPower Electricity

Posted on 17 January 2015 by Marie Hunter

Many people would not stop to consider where their electricity comes from. Here at Sundala Health Centre, as part of our green sustainability program we have chosen to only purchase electricity from sustainable sources. We have chosen to purchase 100% green electricity from our utility provider, what this means is that when we use any of our electronic devices in our health centre in Lismore, we are supporting energy manufacture from sustainable sources.Wind Farm - GreenPower

Green electricity is a term that is used to describe electricity produced from sources which do not cause a negative impact on the environment. Of course, every type of electricity generation will have some impact, but some sources are much greener than others. Around 70 – 80% of the electricity supplied in Australia comes from coal energy which has both short and long term issues associated with the health of the environment and of us humans on this planet.

Sustainable or green electricity can be sourced from a variety of areas including wind power, solar power, hydro power, biomass, wave power, tidal power and geothermal energy. We understand that the sustainable energy source for our electricity mainly comes from three main sources: wind, solar and biomass.

Because we have chosen to purchase 100% green energy from our electricity provider, we are proudly listed as a business using accredited renewable energy via GreenPower. In fact, the suppliers of green energy throughout Australia can be accredited through GreenPower which is the only voluntary government accredited program that allows various electricity providers to purchase clean green energy on behalf of businesses or homes wishing to use green energy.

We have specifically chosen this option to support the businesses and individuals that are producing and looking for new ways to preserve our natural environment and support natural energy manufacture and use. We hope that our positive actions will inspire others to use clean green energy in their home or business.

Actions speak louder than words.
